An engine oil displaying this American Petroleum Institute (API) Certification Â
Mark conforms to the International Lubricant Specification Advisory Com Â
-
mittee (ILSAC). It is recommended to only use engine oils that uphold this Â
API Certification Mark. Â
CAUTION Â
Always be sure to clean the area around Â
any filler plug, drain plug, or dipstick Â
before checking or draining any lubri Â
-
cant. This is especially important in Â
dusty or sandy areas and when the vehi Â
cle is used on unpaved roads. Cleaning Â
the plug and dipstick areas will prevent Â
dirt and grit from entering the engine Â
and other mechanisms that could be Â
damaged. Â
-
Engine oil viscosity (thickness) has an Â
effect on fuel economy and cold Â
weather operating (engine start and Â
engine oil flow ability). Lower viscosity Â
engine oils can provide better fuel econ Â
-
omy and cold weather performance, Â
however, higher viscosity engine oils are Â
required for satisfactory lubrication in Â
hot weather. Â
Using oils of any viscosity other than Â
those recommended could result in Â
engine damage. Â
When choosing an oil, consider the Â
range of temperature your vehicle will Â
be operated in before the next oil Â
change. Proceed to select the recom Â
-
mended oil viscosity from the chart. Â
