If you mix diesel fuel with petrol, the ﬂash

point of the fuel mixture is lower than that of

pure diesel fuel.

While the vehicle is running, component parts

in the exhaust system may overheat without

warning.

Never refuel with one of the following fuels:

Only refuel using sulphur-free diesel fuel

that conforms to European standard

EN 590, or an equivalent speciﬁcation.

In countries without sulphur-free diesel

fuel, refuel using only low-sulphur diesel

fuel with a sulphur content less than

50 ppm.

Do not switch on the vehicle. Otherwise

fuel can enter the engine.

Observe the notes on service ﬂuids and fuel.

The recommended octane number for your vehi-

cle can be found on the information label in the

fuel ﬁller ﬂap.

Press on the rear part of fuel ﬁller ﬂap 1.

Turn the fuel ﬁller cap anti-clockwise and

remove it.

Insert fuel ﬁller cap from above into bracket

Completely insert the pump nozzle into the

tank ﬁller neck, hook in place and refuel.

Vehicles with a diesel engine: Use a ﬁller neck

with a large diameter for vehicles with a diesel

engine when topping up fuel from a fuel canis-

ter. Otherwise, the ﬁller neck cannot be

pushed into the tank shaꢀ.

Replace the cap on the ﬁller neck and turn

clockwise until it engages audibly.

Close fuel ﬁller ﬂap 1.

Only ﬁll the fuel tank until the pump nozzle

switches oﬀ.

Vehicles with a diesel engine: The tank ﬁller

neck is designed for refuelling at diesel ﬁlling

pumps.

Your vehicle is equipped with an incorrect fuel

protection system to prevent ﬁlling up with

the wrong fuel. This function may be deactiva-

ted in some countries due to local circum-

stances. For more information, consult a

Mercedes-Benz service centre.

Fuel type

Vehicles with a diesel engine: Do not run the

fuel tank dry.

Refuel with at least 5 litres of diesel if the fuel

tank has been run dry completely.

Plug-in hybrid with a petrol engine: The fuel

ﬁller ﬂap opens automatically aꢀer the fuel

tank has been vented (/ page 303).

Depressurising the fuel tank (plug-in hybrid with

petrol engine)

The Fuel tank is depressurised Ready for

refuelling message will appear on the driver's

display and the fuel ﬁller ﬂap will open auto-

matically.

Depressurising the fuel tank may take several

minutes.

Only refuel when the fuel ﬁller ﬂap has

opened automatically.

AdBlue^®(vehicles with a diesel engine only)

▌Notes on topping up AdBlue^®

The fuel tank can be depressurised only if the

conditions described above are fulﬁlled. Other-

wise, drive the vehicle at least 0.5 km and repeat

the process.

AdBlue^®is a water-soluble ﬂuid for the NOx

exhaust gas aꢀertreatment of diesel engines. In

order for the exhaust gas aꢀertreatment to func-

tion properly, only use AdBlue^®in accordance

with ISO 22241.

In the following situations, there is a malfunc-

tion:

Indicator lamp 2 ﬂashes initially and then

goes out.

Do not let AdBlue^®come into contact with skin,

eyes or clothes. Keep AdBlue^®away from chil-

dren.

Do not ingest AdBlue^®. If AdBlue^®is swallowed,

immediately rinse your mouth out thoroughly.

Drink plenty of water. Seek medical attention at

once.

The following sequential messages appear in the

driver's display when the AdBlue^®tank needs

Requirements

60 sec. or engine start not poss. The AdBlue^®

tank is empty. You can no longer start the

vehicle. Reﬁll at least the indicated amount of

AdBlue^®. Switch on the vehicle and wait for

approximately 60 seconds. Start the vehicle.

The vehicle is unlocked.

Ensure the connection between the reﬁll con-

tainer and vehicle ﬁller neck does not drip.

Turn AdBlue^®ﬁller cap 2 anti-clockwise and

remove it.

You can also store the AdBlue^®ﬁller cap in

the fuel ﬁller cap holder in the fuel ﬁller ﬂap

hinge arm.

The AdBlue^®range shown greatly depends on

the driving style and operating conditions. The

actual range can therefore deviate from the

calculated range.

Opening the AdBlue^®ﬁller cap

Reﬁlling AdBlue^®

Mercedes-Benz recommends reﬁlling AdBlue^®at

a ﬁlling pump. If no AdBlue^®ﬁlling pump is availa-

ble, you can also top up AdBlue^®using a canister.

Unscrew the cap of the AdBlue^®reﬁll canister

Screw the disposable hose 3 onto the open-

ing of the AdBlue^®reﬁll canister 4 until ﬁn-

ger-tight.

Screw the disposable hose 3 onto the ﬁller

neck of the vehicle until ﬁnger-tight.

Liꢀ up and tilt the AdBlue^®reﬁll canister 4.

The ﬁlling process stops when the AdBlue^®

tank is completely full.

AdBlue^®reﬁll canister 4 can be removed

when it has been only partially emptied.

Unscrew and close the disposable hose 3

and AdBlue^®reﬁll canister 4 in reverse

order.

Replace AdBlue^®ﬁller cap 2 and turn it

clockwise until it audibly engages.

Charging the high-voltage battery (plug-in

hybrid)

Notes on charging the high-voltage battery
