Securing the child restraint system with the seat  
belt  
For a child restraint system in the "Universal"  
or "Semi-Universal" category, make sure that  
the system has been approved for the vehicle  
seat.  
Install the child restraint system.  
The entire base of the child restraint system  
must always rest on the sitting surface of the  
seat.  
Always make sure that the shoulder belt strap  
is correctly routed from the seat belt outlet of  
the vehicle to the shoulder belt guide on the  
child restraint system.  
The shoulder belt strap must be routed for-  
wards from the seat belt outlet and, where  
possible, downwards to the child restraint sys-  
tem.

the rear side windows.  
The child safety lock on the rear doors secures  
each door separately. The doors can no longer be  
opened from the inside.

reminder in the multimedia system  
Occupant presence reminder  
Function of the occupant presence reminder  
Multimedia system:  
The occupant presence reminder can help to  
remind you about a child who may have been for-  
gotten in the rear compartment of the vehicle. It  
activates and deactivates automatically when the  
rear door is open for an extended period of time  
and a child, which the system presumes to be  
present, could enter or exit the vehicle.

Occupant protection

Activate or deactivate the function.  
When the vehicle is switched off, the Do not  
leave persons or animals in the vehicle message  
appears on the driver's display if the system was  
already automatically activated.  
You can permanently deactivate the function in  
the multimedia system (/ page 141). When the  
system is deactivated, the p indicator lamp in  
the driver's display lights up.

To activate/deactivate: press button 2.  
The rear side window can be opened or closed  
in the following cases:

The indicator lamp 1 is lit: via the switch  
on the driver's door  
R
The indicator lamp 1 is off: via the switch  
on the corresponding rear door or driver's  
door
