Vehicles with Active Parking Assist: do not use
Active Parking Assist when snow chains are
fitted.
Vehicles with level control: if snow chains are
fitted, only drive at raised vehicle level .
R
R
The tyres can wear excessively and/or
unevenly.
The driving characteristics as well as the
steering and braking characteristics may
be greatly impaired.
*
NOTE Damage to components of the vehi-
cle body or chassis due to fitted snow
chains
R
If you fit snow chains to the front wheels of
4MATIC vehicles, you may damage compo-
nents of the vehicle body or chassis.
%
You can permanently limit the maximum
speed for driving with winter tyres
(/ page 349).
You can deactivate ESP® to pull away
(/ page 340). This allows the wheels to spin,
achieving an increased driving force.
#
Comply with the recommended tyre
pressure and check the tyre pressure of
all tyres, including the spare wheel, regu-
larly:
#
Only fit snow chains to the rear wheels
of 4MATIC vehicles.

chains:

Snow chains are only permissible for certain
wheel/tyre combinations. You can obtain
information about this from a Mercedes-Benz
Service Centre.

have been specifically approved for your vehi-
cle by Mercedes-Benz, or snow chains with
the same quality standard.
Tyre pressure which is too high or too low can:
Underinflated or overinflated tyres pose in par-
ticular the following risks:
R
Shorten the service life of the tyres.
R
Comply with the installation instructions of the
snow chain manufacturer.
If snow chains are fitted, the maximum per-
missible speed is 50 km/h.
R
Cause increased tyre damage.
R
The tyres can burst.
R
Adversely affect driving characteristics and
thus driving safety, e.g. due to aquaplaning.

WARNING Risk of accident due to repea-
ted pressure drop in the tyres
The vehicle's tyres heat up when driving. As the
temperature of the tyres increases, so too does
the tyre pressure.
Vehicles with a tyre pressure monitoring system:
you can also see the tyre pressure in the driver's
display (/ page 656).
The wheels, valves or tyres could be damaged.
Too low a tyre pressure can lead to the tyres
bursting.
#
Examine the tyres for foreign objects.
Check whether the tyre has a puncture
or the valve has a leak.
If you are unable to rectify the damage,
contact a qualified specialist workshop.
#
Notes on trailer operation
Always inflate the rear axle tyres to the recom-
mended tyre pressures on the tyre pressure table
for increased load.
#
Information on the recommended tyre pressure
for the vehicle's factory-fitted tyres can be found
on the tyre pressure table on the inside of the fuel
filler flap (/ page 655).
Tyre pressure table
The tyre pressure table is on the inside of the fuel
filler flap.
The tyre pressure table shows the recommended
tyre pressure for all tyres approved for this vehi-
cle. The recommended tyre pressures apply for
cold tyres under various operating conditions, i.e.
loading and/or speed of the vehicle.
Use a suitable pressure gauge to check the tyre
pressure. The outer appearance of a tyre does not
permit any reliable conclusion about the tyre pres-
sure.
If one or more tyre sizes precede a tyre pressure,
the following tyre pressure information is only
valid for those tyre sizes and their respective load
condition.
Only correct tyre pressures when the tyres are
cold. Conditions for cold tyres:
R
The vehicle has been parked with the tyres out
of direct sunlight for at least three hours.

If the preceding tyre sizes are complemented by
the + symbol, the tyre pressure information
following shows alternative tyre pressures. Fuel
consumption may then increase slightly.
The tyre pressure monitoring system is only an
aid. It is the driver's responsibility to set the tyre
pressure to the recommended cold tyre pressure
suitable for the operating situation.

In most cases, the tyre pressure monitoring sys-

values aꢀer you have changed the tyre pressure.
You can, however, also update the reference val-

system manually (/ page 657).
The load conditions "partially laden" and "fully
laden" are defined in the table for different num-
bers of passengers and amounts of luggage. The
actual number of seats may differ from this.

Function of the tyre pressure monitoring sys-

The system checks the tyre pressure and the tyre
temperature of the tyres fitted to the vehicle by
means of a tyre pressure sensor.
The tyre pressure and the tyre temperature

Tyre pressures will be displayed after a few
minutes of driving: current values are not yet
known to the system. The pressure/tempera-
ture values of each tyre are displayed as soon
as they are known to the system.
If there is a substantial pressure loss or if the tyre
temperature is excessive, you will be warned with
display messages (/ page 893) or the h

The values displayed in the driver's display
may deviate from those of the tyre pressure

tyre pressure gauge are higher than those
shown in the driver's display.
The Use current tyre pressures as new refer-
