INTELLIGENT KEY SYSTEM  
(where fitted)  
Although the life of the Intelligent Key battery varies  
depending on the operating conditions, the bat-  
tery’s life is approximately 2 years. If the battery is  
discharged, replace it with a new one.  
If the outside temperature is below -10°C  
(14°F), the Intelligent Key may not function  
properly.  
WARNING  
Radio waves could adversely affect electric  
medical equipment. Those who use a pace-  
maker should contact the electric medical  
equipment manufacturer for the possible in-  
fluences before use.  
Do not attach the Intelligent Key to a key  
holder that contains a magnet.  
For information regarding replacement of a battery,  
see “Battery” in the “8. Maintenance and  
do-it-yourself” section.  
Do not place the Intelligent Key near equip-  
ment that produces a magnetic field, such as  
a TV, audio equipment, personal computer or  
mobile phone.  
The Intelligent Key transmits radio waves  
When the Intelligent Key battery is almost  
discharged, firmly apply the footbrake and touch  
the power switch with the Intelligent key. Then push  
the power switch while depressing the brake pedal  
within 10 seconds after the chime sounds. For de-  
tails, see “Intelligent Key battery discharge” in the  
“5. Starting and driving” section.

The Intelligent Key system can operate all the door

taking the key out from a pocket or purse. The oper-  
ating environment and/or conditions may affect  
the Intelligent Key system operation.  
INTELLIGENT KEY OPERATING

CAUTION  
Do not allow the Intelligent Key, which con-  
tains electrical components, to come into con-  
tact with water or salt water. This could affect  
the functioning of the system.  
Be sure to read the following items before using the  
Intelligent Key system.  
Do not drop the Intelligent Key.

Do not strike the Intelligent Key sharply  
against another object.  
Be sure to carry the Intelligent Key with you  
when operating the vehicle.  
Do not change or modify the Intelligent Key.

The Intelligent Key may be damaged if it gets  
wet. If the Intelligent Key gets wet, immedi-  
ately wipe until it is completely dry.

Do not push the door handle request button  
with the Intelligent Key held in your hand as il-  
lustrated. The close distance to the door handle  
will cause the Intelligent Key system to have dif-  
ficulty recognising that the Intelligent Key is out-  
side the vehicle.

After locking with the door handle request but-  
ton, verify the doors are securely locked by op-  
erating the door handles.

Request button  
To prevent the Intelligent Key from being left in-  
side the vehicle,make sure you carry the key with  
you and then lock the doors.  
The request button will not function under the fol-  
lowing conditions:  
When the Intelligent Key is within the range of op-  
eration, the door locks can be locked or unlocked by  
pushing the door handle request button on the  
driver’s or front passenger’s door or the tailgate.  
When the Intelligent Key is left inside the vehicle.  
If another intelligent key is outside the vehicle, it  
can be locked/unlocked.  
Do not pull the door handle before pushing the  
door handle request button. The door will be un-  
locked but will not open.Release the door handle  
once and pull it again to open the door.  
When the Intelligent Key is not within the opera-  
tional range

The request button will not function under the fol-

If the tailgate request button was pressed, only  
the tailgate unlocks.  
CAUTION  
Do not leave the duplicate Intelligent Key inside  
the vehicle as the locking procedure logic will not  
work.  
When the Intelligent Key is left inside the vehicle.  
If another intelligent key is outside the vehicle, it  
can be locked/unlocked.

1. Make sure you have the Intelligent Key when exit-  
ing the vehicle.

If the vehicle is unlocked and no doors are  
opened for a period of time, the doors will au-  
tomatically be locked.

tailgate).  
Convenience door unlock mode:  
APPROACH UNLOCK FUNCTION  
As default, the door unlock (convenience) mode is  
set to unlock all the doors and the tailgate with one  
push on the door/tailgate request button.  
All doors and the tailgate will be locked.  
When you approach the vehicle with the Intelligent  
Key, the vehicle will be unlocked automatically by  
the approach unlock function. This function is dis-  
abled by the default setting. You can enable this  
function by the vehicle information display. For ad-  
ditional information, see “[Locking]” in the “2. Instru-  
ments and controls” section.  
Hazard indicator lights flash once for confir-  
mation.  
All doors and the tailgate will be unlocked.

Super Lock system equipped models: The  
Super Lock system will be activated if the re-  
quest button or the Intelligent Key lock but-  
ton is double-pressed. Hazard indicator lights  
flash longer to indicate Super Lock activation.  
Selective door unlock mode:  
Selective door unlock mode allows the remote un-  
locking of only the driver's door to prevent an at-  
tacker from entering the vehicle via an unlocked  
passenger door.  
WALK-AWAY LOCK FUNCTION  
4. Pull the door handles to confirm that the doors  
have been securely locked.  
When you walk away from the vehicle with the Intel-  
ligent Key, the vehicle will be locked automatically  
by the walk-away lock function. This function is dis-  
abled by the default setting. You can enable this  
function by the vehicle information display. For ad-  
ditional information, see “[Locking]” in the “2. Instru-  
ments and controls” section  
1. Push the door/tailgate request button.  
If the driver's door request button was pressed,
