Starting and driving -> Driving with Automatic Dual Clutch Transmission for Your Nissan Juke SUV 2020

However, the driver remains responsible for decid-
ing the most suitable gear according to actual ve-
hicle, road and traffic conditions.
If it is difficult to move the shift lever into R (Reverse)
or 1st. Shift into N (Neutral), then release the clutch
pedal. Fully depress the clutch pedal again and shift
into R (Reverse) or 1st.
To avoid possible damage to your vehicle;
when stopping the vehicle on an uphill grade,
do not hold the vehicle by depressing the ac-
celerator pedal. The footbrake should be used
for this purpose.

DRIVING WITH AUTOMATIC DUAL
CLUTCH TRANSMISSION (DCT)
Driving precautions
No arrow is displayed in some circumstances in-
cluding:
Shift into the N (Neutral) position and apply
the parking brake when at a standstill for
longer than a short waiting period.
The actual gear matches recommended gear
The vehicle speed is approx. 0 km/h
Keep the engine at idling speed while shifting
from the N (Neutral) position to any driving po-
sition.
WARNING
Reverse gear:
To reverse with 6–speed manual transmission, pro-
ceed as follows:
Do not downshift abruptly on slippery roads. This
may cause a loss of control.
DEPRESS THE FOOTBRAKE PEDAL
When the engine is running, shifting the shift
lever into the R (Reverse), D (Drive) or Manual
shift mode position without depressing the
brake pedal causes the vehicle to move slowly.
Be sure the brake pedal is fully depressed and
the vehicle is stopped, before shifting the shift
lever.
1) Stop the vehicle.
CAUTION
2) Move the shift lever into the N (Neutral) position.
Never shift to either the P (Park) or R (Reverse)
3) Pull and hold the shift lever ring
up.
position while the vehicle is moving forward,
and P (Park) or D (Drive) position while the ve-
hicle is reversing. This could cause an accident
or damage the transmission.
4) Move the shift lever into the R (Reverse) position.
5) Release the shift lever ring and safely drive the
vehicle backwards.
BE AWARE OF THE SHIFT LEVER POSITION
Make sure that the shift lever is in the desired
position. Use the D (Drive) mode to move for-
wards and R (Reverse) to move backwards. Re-
lease the parking brake and the footbrake
pedal, then depress the accelerator pedal to
start the vehicle in motion and merge with
traffic (avoid abrupt starting and spinning the
wheels).
The shift lever ring returns to its original posi-
tion when the shift lever is moved to the N (Neu-
tral) position.
Except in an emergency, do not shift to the N
(Neutral) position while driving. Coasting with
the transmission in the N (Neutral) position
may cause serious damage to the transmis-
sion.
When the shift lever is in the R (Reverse) position,
either the NissanConnect monitor (where fitted) or
the ultrasonic parking sensor (where fitted) will be
activated.For details,see “Rear-view monitor (where
fitted)” in the “4. Display screen, heater and air con-
ditioner, and audio system” section or “Intelligent
Around View Monitor (IAVM)” in the “4. Display
screen, heater and air conditioner, and audio
system” section or “Ultrasonic Parking Sensors
(where fitted)” later in this section.
Start the engine in the P (Park) or N (Neutral)
position. The engine will not start in any other
shift lever position. If it does, have your ve-
hicle checked by a NISSAN dealer or qualified
workshop.
Avoid revving up the engine while the vehicle
is stopped, this could cause unexpected ve-
hicle movement (if the shift lever is in the R
(Reverse) or D (Drive) position) or damage the
engine (if the shift lever is in the N (Neutral) or
P (Park) position).
202 Starting and driving
WARM THE ENGINE UP
The Automatic (DCT) transmission is designed so
that the footbrake pedal MUST be depressed be-
fore shifting from P (Park) to any drive position while
the ignition is switched ON.
To move the shift lever:
Due to the higher idle speeds when the engine
is cold, extra caution must be taken when
shifting the shift lever into the driving posi-
tion immediately after starting the engine.
Push the button while depressing the
brake pedal.
m
Push the button to shift.
m
PARKING THE VEHICLE
Just move the shift lever.
Depress the footbrake pedal and, once the ve-
hicle stops, move the shift lever into the P
(Park) position, apply the parking brake and
release the footbrake pedal.
m
Push the button to shift into P (Park) or R (Reverse).
All other positions can be selected without pushing
the button.

Start the engine in the P (Park) or N (Neutral) posi-
tion with the footbrake depressed. The engine will
not start in any other shift lever position.
P (Park):
Use this position when the vehicle is parked or when
starting the engine. Always make sure that the ve-
hicle is completely stopped before moving the shift
lever into the P (Park) position. For maximum safety,
the footbrake pedal must be depressed before mov-
ing the shift lever into the P (Park) position. Use this
position together with the parking brake. When
parking on a hill, first depress the footbrake pedal,
apply the parking brake and then shift into the P
(Park) position.
If you try to start engine with the shift lever in N
(Neutral) without the footbrake depressed, the
engine will not start and a [Shift to Park] mes-
sage will be displayed in the vehicle information
display.
1. After starting the engine, fully depress the foot-
brake pedal before shifting the shift lever from P
(Park) to R (Reverse) or D (Drive).

Drive mode switch (where fitted):
You can change gear yourself using the steering
wheel gearshift paddles.
The Drive Mode switch can be used to change the
shifting characteristics of the automatic (DCT)
transmission. ECO Mode will perform upshifts and
downshifts at lower engine speeds than standard
mode. Sport Mode will perform upshifts and down-
shifts at higher engine speeds than standard mode.
If you pull the left or right steering wheel gearshift
paddle, the automatic transmission immediately
shifts into the next gear down or up.
Manual shift mode
Manual shift mode can be selected by pulling a
steering wheel gearshift paddle. If the paddle is
briefly pulled back, the change to manual shift
mode is temporary and lasts for approximately 10
seconds after the last manual gear change. If the
paddle is pulled back longer, the manual shift mode
will remain set until it is switched off again.
For more details about the Drive Mode switch, see
“Drive mode (where fitted)” later in this section.

mode is enabled the selected gear will appear with
an “M” (for example “3M”).
Accelerator downshift – In the D (Drive)
position
For rapid passing or driving uphill, fully depress the
accelerator pedal to the floor. This shifts the trans-
mission down into a lower gear, depending on the
vehicle speed. This feature also works in manual
shift mode.

To cancel manual shift mode, pull the right hand
steering wheel paddle for longer than 1.5 sec-
onds. The transmission returns to the normal
driving mode.
Place the ignition in the LOCK position, and re-
move the key if it is inserted.
2. Apply the parking brake.
In manual shift mode, the transmission may
not shift to the selected gear under certain cir-
cumstances. This helps maintain driving per-
formance and reduces the chance of vehicle
damage or loss of control.
3. Using a suitable tool, unclip and lift up the con-
sole finisher ring

paddles will occur within 1 second after the re-
quest if conditions are met. If not, gear change
refusal sound will be activated.
Place the ignition in the ON position to unlock the
steering wheel. The vehicle may be moved to the
desired location.
If the engine is revving up to a hazardous
speed in manual shift mode, the transmission
may shift up automatically. When the vehicle
speed decreases, the transmission automati-
cally shifts down and shifts to 1st gear before
the vehicle comes to a stop.
For models with Intelligent Key system: If the bat-
tery is discharged completely, the steering wheel
cannot be unlocked. Do not move the vehicle with
the steering wheel locked.
