EUROPE)
WARNING
Failure to follow the warnings and instructions for
proper use of the IEB system could result in seri-
ous injury or death.
The IEB system is a supplemental aid to the
NIC3818
driver. It is not a replacement for the driver’s
attention to traffic conditions or responsibil-
ity to drive safely. It cannot prevent accidents
NIC3802
j
The IEB system uses a radar sensor A to measure
the distance to the vehicle ahead in the same lane.
For pedestrians and cyclists, the IEB system uses a

paper or a mirror, on the instrument panel. The
reflection of sunlight may adversely affect the
camera unit's detection capability of detecting
lane markers.
Overview of warnings
Do not strike or damage the areas around the
camera unit. Do not touch the camera lens or
remove the screw located on the camera unit. If
the camera unit is damaged due to an accident,
contact a NISSAN dealer or qualified workshop.
Starting and driving 297
ing and roadway conditions, the system may help
the driver avoid a forward collision or may help miti-
gate the consequences of a collision, should one be
unavoidable. If the driver is handling the steering
wheel, accelerating or braking, the IEB system will
function later or will not function.
When the IEB system is turned off, the IEB system
warning light will illuminate.
IEB system operation
The IEB system will function when your vehicle is
driven at speeds above approximately
(3 MPH). For the pedestrian and cyclist detection
function, the IEB system operates at speeds be-
tween 10 and 80 km/h (6 and 50 MPH). The autono-
mous brake operates at speeds lower than 60 km/h
(37 MPH).
5 km/h
NOTE
Disabling the ESP system causes the Intelli-
gent Emergency Braking system to become
unavailable regardless of settings selected in
the Vehicle Information Display.
The automatic braking will cease under the follow-
ing conditions:
The IEB system will be automatically turned
ON when the engine is restarted.
When the steering wheel is turned as far as nec-
essary to avoid a collision.
If a risk of a forward collision is detected, the IEB
system will first provide a warning to the driver by
flashing the warning (white) in the vehicle informa-
tion display and providing an audible alert. In addi-
tion, the IEB system applies partial braking. If the
driver applies the brakes quickly and forcefully, but
the IEB system detects that there is still the possi-
bility of a forward collision, the system will auto-
matically increase the braking force.
IEB system limitations
When there is no longer a vehicle or pedestrian
or cyclist detected ahead.
WARNING
If the IEB system has stopped the vehicle, the ve-
hicle will remain at a standstill for approximately 2
seconds before the brakes are released.
Listed below are the system limitations for the
IEB system. Failure to operate the vehicle in ac-
cordance with these system limitations could re-
sult in serious injury or death.
Turning the Intelligent Emergency
Braking (IEB) system ON/OFF
Perform the following steps to turn the IEB system
ON or OFF.
If the driver does not take action, the IEB system
issues the second visual warning (flashing red and
white) and audible warning, then the system ap-
plies partial braking. If the risk of a collision becomes
imminent, the IEB system applies harder braking
automatically.
The IEB system cannot detect all vehicles, pe-
destrians or cyclists under all conditions.
The IEB system does not detect the following
objects:
1. Using the
or
switches and the <OK>
button on the left side of the steering wheel, se-
lect the [Settings] menu in the Vehicle Informa-
tion Display.
Small pedestrians (including small chil-
dren) and animals.
NOTE
Pedestrians in wheelchairs or using mobile
transport such as scooters, child-operated
toys, or skateboards.
For details, see “Settings” in the “2. Instruments
and controls” section.

298 Starting and driving
The IEB system has some performance limita-
tions.
Interference by other radar sources.
In these cases, the system may not be able to
warn the driver properly. Be sure that you
check, clean and clear sensor areas regularly.
The camera area of the windscreen is
fogged up, covered with dirt, water drops,
ice, snow, etc.
If a stationary vehicle is in the vehicle's
path, the IEB system will not function when
the vehicle is driven at speeds over
approximately 80 km/h (50 MPH).
In some road or traffic conditions, the IEB sys-
tem may unexpectedly apply partial braking.
When acceleration is necessary, continue to
depress the accelerator pedal to override the
system.
Strong light (e.g. sunlight or high beams
from oncoming vehicles) enters the front
camera. Strong light causes the area
around the pedestrian or cyclist to be cast
in shadow, making it difficult to see.
For pedestrian and cyclist detection, the
IEB system will not function when the ve-
hicle is driven at speeds over approxi-
mately 80 km/h (50 MPH) or below
approximately 10 km/h (6 MPH). The auto-
matic brake operates at speeds below 60
km/h (37 MPH).
Excessive noise will interfere with the warning
chime sound, and the chime may not be heard.

The Intelligent Emergency Braking system
may operate when the following are similar to
the outlines of pedestrians or cyclists, or if
they are the same size and position as a vehi-
cle's and motorcycle's tail lights.
The IEB system may not function for pedestri-
ans and cyclists in darkness or in tunnels, even
if there is street lighting in the area.
The poor contrast of a person to the back-
ground, such as having clothing coloured
or patterned similar to the background.
The IEB system may not function if the vehicle
ahead is narrow (e.g. a motorcycle).
The pedestrian's profile is partially ob-
scured or unidentifiable due to the pedes-
trian transporting luggage, wearing bulky
or very loose-fitting clothing or accesso-
ries.
Paint, a shadow or a pattern on the road,
roadside or wall (including faded and un-
usual road markings).
The IEB system may not function if the speed
difference between the two vehicles is too
small.
A shape formed by road structures ahead
(such as tunnels, viaducts, traffic sign, re-
flectors installed on the side of vehicles, re-
flection sheets, and guardrails), road side
objects (trees, buildings) and light sources.
The IEB system may not function properly or
detect a vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist ahead in
the following conditions:
The system performance may degrade in the
following conditions:
The vehicle is driven on a slippery road.
The vehicle is driven on a slope.
Poor visibility (conditions such as rain,
snow, fog, dust storms, sand storms, and
road spray from other vehicles).
A shape formed by road side objects, such
as trees, lighting, shadows, or buildings.
Excessively heavy luggage is loaded in the
rear seat or the luggage area of your ve-
hicle.
Driving on a steep downhill slope or roads
with sharp curves.
The Intelligent Emergency Braking system

vehicles in a different lane, or may temporarily not
detect a vehicle travelling ahead. This may cause
the system to work inappropriately.

The detection of vehicles may also be affected by
vehicle operation (steering manoeuvre or travelling
position in the lane, etc.) or vehicle condition. If this
occurs, the system may warn you by blinking the
system indicator and sounding the chime unex-
pectedly. You will have to manually control the
proper distance to the vehicle travelling ahead.
