Starting and driving -> Parking for Your Nissan Patrol SUV Sixth Generation (2010-2023)

INCREASING FUEL ECONOMY AND
PARKING
REDUCING CARBON DIOXIDE EMISSIONS
.
.
Keep your engine tuned up.
WARNING:
Follow the recommended scheduled main-
tenance.
.
.
Do not stop or park the vehicle over
flammable materials such as dry grass,
waste paper or rags. They may ignite and
cause a fire.
Safe parking procedures require that
both the parking brake be applied and
the shift lever placed into the “P” (Park)
position. Failure to do so could cause the
vehicle to move unexpectedly or roll
away and result in an accident.
.
.
.
Keep the tires inflated to the correct
pressure. Low tire pressure increases tire
wear and lowers fuel economy.
Keep the wheels in correct alignment.
Improper alignment increases tire wear
and lowers fuel economy.
Use the recommended viscosity engine oil.
(See “Recommended fluids/lubricants and
capacities” (P.9-2).)
.
When parking the vehicle, make sure the
shift lever is moved to the “P” (Park)
position. The shift lever cannot be moved
out of the “P” (Park) position without
depressing the foot brake pedal.
.
.
Never leave the engine running while the
vehicle is unattended.
Do not leave children unattended inside
the vehicle. They could unknowingly acti-
vate switches or controls. Unattended
children could become involved in ser-
ious accidents.
.
To help avoid risk of injury or death
through unintended operation of the
vehicle and/or its systems, do not leave
children, people who require the assis-
tance of others or pets unattended in
your vehicle. Additionally, the tempera-
ture inside a closed vehicle on a warm
day can quickly become high enough to
cause a significant risk of injury or death
to people and pets.

Turn the wheels away from the curb and
allow the vehicle to move back until the
curb side wheel gently touches the curb.
Then apply the parking brake.
2. Move the shift lever to the “P” (Park)
position.
3. To help prevent the vehicle from moving
into traffic when parked on an incline, it is a
good practice to turn the wheels as illu-
strated.
HEADED UPHILL OR DOWNHILL, WITHOUT
CURB
Turn the wheels toward the side of the
road so the vehicle will move away from the
center of the road if the vehicle moves.
Then apply the parking brake.
HEADED DOWNHILL WITH CURB
Turn the wheels into the curb and move
the vehicle forward until the curb side
wheel gently touches the curb. Then apply
the parking brake.

PARKING SENSOR SYSTEM
The system may not detect objects at speeds
above 10 km/h (6 MPH) and may not detect
certain angular or moving objects.
The parking sensor system detects obstacles
up to 1.2 m (3.9 ft) from the bumper with a
decreased coverage area at the outer corners
of the bumper. Refer to the illustration for
approximate zone coverage areas. As you
move closer to the obstacle, the rate of the
tone increases. When the obstacle is less than
35 cm (13.8 in) (except for Mexico) or 30 cm (11.8
in) (for Mexico) away, the tone will sound
continuously.
SSD0622
Keep the corner/center sensors (located on the
bumper fascia) free from snow, ice and large
accumulations of dirt (do not clean the sensors
with sharp objects). If the sensors are covered,
it will affect the accuracy of the parking sensor
system.
The sensitivity level of the corner/center sen-
sors can be adjusted (higher or lower) in the
lower display (model with dual display) or
center display (model with single display) (if
equipped). (See “Setting operation (Type A)”
(P.5-97) or “Setting operation (Type B)” (P.4-18).)
stacles or false alarms.
CAUTION:
WARNING:
.
.
The parking sensor system is a conve-
nience but it is not a substitute for proper
parking. Always look around and check
that it is safe to do so before parking.
Always move slowly.
Read and understand the limitations of
the parking sensor system as contained
in this section. Inclement weather may
affect the function of the parking sensor
system; this may include reduced perfor-
mance or a false activation.
.
.
Keep the interior of the vehicle as quiet as
possible to hear the tone clearly.
The front and rear parking sensors (so-
nar) detect the distance between the
vehicle and the obstacle by detecting
the sound wave reflected from the sur-
face of the obstacle. When there is
a
sound such as horn, or an ultrasonic
source (such as parking sensors of other
vehicles) around the vehicle, the sensor
(sonar) may not detect objects properly.
The intermittent tone will stop in 3 seconds
when an obstacle is detected by only the
corner sensor and the distance does not
change.
.
.
This system is not designed to prevent
contact with small or moving objects.
The parking sensor system sounds a tone to
warn the driver of obstacles near the bumper.
When the “Interrupt Display” is turned on in the
“Sonar” settings, the parking sensor indicator
will also appear in the center display (if
equipped). (See “Parking sensor indicator” (P.5-
96).) The system detects front obstacles when
the shift lever is in the “D” (Drive) position or “N”
(Neutral) position. The system detects both
front and rear obstacles when the shift lever
is in the “R” (Reverse) position.
The system is designed as an aid to the
driver in detecting large stationary ob-
jects to help avoid damaging the vehicle.
The system will not detect small objects
below the bumper, and may not detect
objects that are too close to the bumper
or on the ground.
If your vehicle sustains damage to the
bumper fascia, leaving it misaligned or
bent, the sensing zone may be altered
causing inaccurate measurement of ob-

is turned on in the “Parking Sensor”(model with
dual display) or “Sonar” (model with single
display) settings, when the corner/center sen-
sors detect obstacles near the bumper, a tone
will sound and the parking sensor indicator will
appear in the center display . When the rear
view monitor is displayed, the parking sensor
indicator will appear in the upper corner of the

The parking sensor indicators and indicate
the position of the object and the distance to
the object with its color and rate of blinking.
When an object is detected, the indicator
(green) appears and blinks (the tone sounds
intermittently). When the vehicle moves closer
to the object, the color of the indicator turns
yellow and the rate of blinking increases (the
rate of the tone increases). When the bumper is
very close to the object, less than 35 cm (13.8 in)
(except for Mexico) or 30 cm (11.8 in) (for Mexico)
away, the indicator stops blinking and turns red
(the tone sounds continuously).
When the rear view monitor is displayed, the
colors of the parking sensor indicator and
the distance guide lines in the rear view
indicate different distances to the object.
SSD0972
The parking sensor system OFF switch on the
lower side of the instrument panel allows the
driver to turn the parking sensor system on
and off. To turn the parking sensor system on
and off, the ignition switch must be in the “ON”
position. The indicator light on the switch will
illuminate when the system is turned off. If the
indicator light flashes when the parking sensor
system is not turned off, it may indicate a
malfunction in the parking sensor system.
The parking sensor system will turn on auto-
matically under the following conditions.
When the
is touched, the parking sensor
system will be turned off temporarily.
