noise.
WARNING:
.
Incorrect jump starting can lead to a
battery explosion. The battery explosion
may result in severe injury or death. It
may also result in damage to the vehicle.
Be sure to follow the instructions in this
section.
.
.
Explosive hydrogen gas is always present
in the vicinity of the battery. Keep all
sparks and flames away from the battery.
Always wear suitable eye protection and

Never lean over the battery while jump
starting.
Never allow battery fluid to come into
contact with eyes, skin, clothes or the
vehicle’s painted surfaces. Battery fluid is
a corrosive sulfuric acid which can cause
severe burns. If the fluid comes into
contact with anything, immediately flush
the contacted area with plenty of water.
.
.
Keep the battery out of the reach of
children.
The booster battery must be rated at 12
volts. Use of an incorrectly rated battery
will damage your vehicle.
.
Never attempt to jump start a frozen
battery. It could explode and cause ser-
ious injury.
In case of emergency 6-9
1. If the booster battery is in another vehicle
CAUTION:
, position the two vehicles
and
to
bring the batteries into close proximity to
each other.
.
.
Always connect positive + to positive +
and negative 7 to body ground, NOT to
the battery’s negative 7.
Be sure that the jumper cables do not
touch moving parts in the engine com-
partment.
CAUTION:
If the battery of vehicle
equipped with the
Intelligent Key system is discharged, the
ignition switch cannot be placed from the
“LOCK” position and, if the steering lock is
engaged, the steering wheel cannot be
moved. Connect the jumper cables to the

be contaminated with corrosive acid.
14. Replace the vent caps, if removed.
NOTE:
.
For model with Stop/Start System or
Idling Stop System, use the special bat-
tery that is enhanced in regard to the
charge-discharge capacity and life per-
formance. Avoid using a non-special bat-

PUSH STARTING
IF YOUR VEHICLE OVERHEATS
Do not attempt to start the engine by pushing
the vehicle.
Stop System, as this may cause early
deterioration of the battery or a malfunc-
tion of the Stop/Start System or Idling
Stop System. For the battery, it is recom-
mended to use Genuine NISSAN parts. For
more information, contact a NISSAN deal-
er.
For model with Stop/Start System or
Idling Stop System, it may take some
time until Stop/Start System or Idling
Stop System activates when the battery
is replaced or the battery terminal is
disconnected for extended periods and
then reconnected. Also, in the first trip
after the jump starting, Idling Stop Sys-
tem will not be activated.
WARNING:
.
Never continue driving if your vehicle
overheats. Doing so could cause a vehicle
fire.
CAUTION:
.
Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
or Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT)/Man-
ual Transmission (MT) model cannot be
started by pushing. Attempting to do so
may cause damage to the transmission.
.
.
Never open the hood if steam is coming
out.
.
Never remove the radiator cap or the
engine coolant reservoir cap while the
engine is hot. If the radiator or coolant
reservoir cap is removed when the en-
gine is hot, pressurized hot water will
spurt out and possibly cause burning,
scalding or serious injury.
If steam or coolant is coming from the
engine, stand clear of the vehicle to
prevent getting scalded.
The engine cooling fan can start at any
time when the coolant temperature ex-
ceeds preset degrees.
Be careful not to allow your hands, hair,
jewelry or clothing to come into contact
with, or to get caught in the cooling fan or
drive belts.
.
.
.
Three-way catalyst equipped model
should not be started by pushing. At-
tempting to do so may cause damage to
the three-way catalyst.
Never try to start the engine by towing.
When the engine starts, the forward
surge could cause the vehicle to collide
with the towing vehicle.
.
.
.
Stop/Start System or Idling Stop System
equipped model cannot be started by
pushing the vehicle.
If your vehicle is overheating (indicated by the
high temperature indicator), or if you feel a lack
of engine power, detect unusual noise, etc.,
take the following steps:
1. Safely move the vehicle off the road away
from traffic.
2. Turn on the hazard indicator flasher lights.
3. Apply the parking brake.
4. Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)/
