WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH  
when the ignition switch is in the “ON” position.  
Wiper operation  
The lever position “AUTO” (Type A/Type C)  
operates the rain-sensing auto wiper system (if  
equipped). (See “Rain-sensing auto wiper sys-  
tem” (P.2-62).)  
WARNING:  
In freezing temperatures, the washer fluid  
may freeze on the windshield and obscure  
your vision. Warm the windshield with the  
defogger before you wash the windshield.  
The lever position “

CAUTION:  
operates the wiper intermittently.

Do not operate the washer continuously  
for longer than 30 seconds.

The intermittent operation can be adjusted

The speed of the intermittent operation  
varies depending on the vehicle speed. This  
function can be turned on or off (if

WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER  
SWITCH  
The lever position  
operates the wiper at low  
speed.  
The lever position operates the wiper at high  
speed.  
To stop the wiper operation, move the lever up  
to the “OFF” position.  
The lever position  
operates the wiper one  
sweep. The lever automatically returns to its  
original position.  
If the windshield wiper operation is inter-  
rupted by snow or ice, the wiper may stop  
moving to protect its motor. If this occurs,  
turn the wiper switch to the “OFF” position  
and remove the snow or ice on and around  
the wiper arms. In approximately 1 minute,  
turn the switch on again to operate the  
wiper.

Pulling up the wiper arm:  
The wiper arm should be in the up position  
when replacing the wiper.  
To replace the windshield wiper blades, follow  
the procedure below:

1. When the ignition switch is “ON” or within  
60 seconds after placing the ignition switch  
from the “ON” to “OFF” position, place the  
windshield wiper and washer lever into the  
“OFF” position.  
Washer operation  
To operate the washer, pull the lever toward  
the rear of the vehicle  
until the desired  
amount of washer fluid is spread on the wind-  
shield.  
2. Rapidly lift the lever  
upwards twice  
The headlight cleaner (if equipped) will also  
operate with operation of the windshield  
washer. See “Headlight cleaner” (P.2-58).  
within 0.5 seconds. This action will cause  
the wipers to automatically take the service  
position.  
Wiper drip wipe system:  
CAUTION:  
The wiper will also operate once about

seconds after the washer and wiper are  
operated. This operation is to wipe washer  
fluid that has dripped on the windshield.

This function can be operated even if the  
ignition switch is in the “ON” position.  
However, to prevent an accident or da-  
mage when pulling up the wiper arm, be  
sure to observe the following precau-  
tions.  
Type B  
The rain-sensing auto wiper system can auto-  
matically turn on the wipers and adjust the  
wiper speed depending on the rainfall and the  
vehicle speed by using the rain sensor located  
on the upper part of the windshield.  
To activate or deactivate this function, see  
“Settings” (P.2-23).  
RAIN-SENSING AUTO WIPER SYSTEM (if  
equipped)  
— Make sure the shift lever is in the “P”  
(Park) position (Continuously Variable  
Transmission (CVT)/Dual Clutch  
Transmission (DCT) model).  
To set the rain-sensing auto wiper system,  
push the lever down to the AUTO position  
.
The wiper will sweep once while the ignition  
switch is in the “ON” position.  
— Make sure the shift lever is in the “N”  
(Neutral) position, with the parking  
brake fully applied (Manual Transmis-  
sion models).  
The rain sensor sensitivity level can be adjusted  
by turning the knob toward the front  
(High)  
or toward the rear  
(Low).  
High — High sensitive operation  
Low — Low sensitive operation

— Never allow the passengers to oper-  
ate the windshield wiper switch inad-  
vertently.  
To turn the rain-sensing auto wiper system off,  
push up the lever to the “OFF” position, or pull  
down the lever to the other.

Do not operate the windshield wiper  
while the wiper arm is pulled up. The  
wiper arm may be damaged.

Type A

Do not touch the rain sensor and around  
it when the wiper switch is in the AUTO  
position and the ignition switch is in the  
“ON” position. The wipers may operate  
unexpectedly and cause an injury or may  
damage a wiper.

When the windshield glass is coated with  
water repellent, the speed of the rain-  
sensing auto wipers may be higher even  
though the amount of the rainfall is  
small.  
Washer operation  
To operate the washer, push the lever toward  
the front of the vehicle  
until the desired  
amount of washer fluid is spread on the wind-  
shield. The wiper will automatically operate  
several times.

Be sure to turn off the rain-sensing auto  
wiper system when you use a car wash.  
The rain-sensing auto wipers may not  
operate if rain does not hit the rain  
sensor even if it is raining.  
.
Using genuine wiper blades is recom-  
mended for proper operation of the rain-  
sensing auto wiper system. (See “Wiper  
blades” (P.8-26) for wiper blade replace-  
ment.)

The rear window wiper and washer operates  
when the ignition switch is in the “ON” position.  
Wiper operation  
REAR WINDOW WIPER AND WASHER
