Use this mode when climate control needs  
to be operate to increase the comfort  
quickly. This will reduce the operation  
range of the Auto Start Stop function.  
& Airflow mode selection  
NOTE  
If the system cannot judge correctly if  
there are passengers or not in the rear  
seat by the opening and closing of the  
rear door, such as when the doors are  
opened to place some cargo in the  
vehicle, the rear occupant detection  
may not operate properly.  
Select the airflow mode using the airflow  
mode selection dial (type A and C) or the  
airflow mode selection button (type B).  
! ECO mode  
Use this mode when fuel efficiency is  
prioritized over comfort. This increases  
the range of the Auto Start Stop operation.  
Airflow modes are as follows.  
! Occupant detection  
This mode switches the climate control  
operation according to the number of  
passengers.  
! Front occupant detection  
This mode detects passenger by the  
occupant detection system sensor when  
there is no front passenger in the seat. The  
setting temperature will be changed to the  
driver’s setting temperature automatically.  
NOTE

If equipped  
The occupant detection system sensor  
may not detect passengers because of  
their posture, physical size or weight.  
The front occupant detection function  
may not operate properly.  
Ventilation: Instrument panel outlets  
! Rear occupant detection  
This function judges if there are any  
passenger in the rear seat by the opening

Ventilation 2 for type B and C: Instru-  
ment panel outlets and foot outlets  
Heat-def: Windshield defroster outlets,  
foot outlets and both side outlets of the  
instrument panel (Refer to “Defrosting”  
P271.)  
Heat: Foot outlets, both side outlets of the  
instrument panel and some through wind-  
shield defroster outlets (A small amount of  
air flows to the windshield and both side  
windows to prevent fogging.)

& MAX A/C mode (for type B and  
NOTE  
C)  
The controllable temperature range  
may vary depending on the regional  
specifications of the vehicle.  
For quicker cooling, press the MAX A/C  
button.  
When the MAX A/C mode is on, the  
following settings will be changed auto-  
matically.  
! SYNC mode (type B)  
When the SYNC mode is turned on, both  
the driver’s and passenger’s side tem-  
peratures are synchronized using the  
driver’s side temperature control dial.  
Press the SYNC button to turn on the  
SYNC mode. The SYNC button indicator  
will illuminate.  
Press the SYNC button again or turn the  
passenger’s side temperature control dial  
to cancel the SYNC mode. The SYNC  
button indicator will not illuminate. In this  
case, temperature control on the driver’s  
side and passenger’s side is separated.  
The temperature will be controlled indivi-  
dually using the driver’s and passenger’s  
temperature control dials.

The air conditioner will turn on.  
The temperature will be set on the  
lowest.

The fan speed will be set on the  
maximum speed.

The air inlet will be set to recirculation.  
The airflow mode setting will be set to  
ventilation mode.  
Defrost for type A: Windshield defroster  
outlets and both side outlets of the instru-  
ment panel (Refer to “Defrosting” P271.)  
To turn off MAX A/C mode and return the  
previous setting, press the MAX A/C  
button again.  
& Temperature control  
Turn the temperature control dial to set the  
preferred interior temperature.  
For models with the Driver Monitoring  
System, the temperature setting can also  
be changed with the gesture control  
function. Refer to “Gesture control”  
P391.  
& Fan speed control  
Select the preferred fan speed by turning  
the fan speed control dial.  
& Air conditioner control  
The air conditioner operates only when the  
engine is running.  
Press the air conditioner button while the

fan is in operation to turn on the air  
conditioner. When the air conditioner is  
on, the “A/C” indicator light illuminates.  
To turn off the air conditioner, press the  
button again.

lected, the system may automati-  
cally adjust the air inlet setting  
depending on such factors as the

comfortable temperature  
NOTE  
For efficient defogging or dehumidify-  
ing in cold weather, turn on the air  
conditioner. If the ambient temperature  
decreases to approximately 328F (08C),  
the air conditioner and dehumidifica-  
tion system may not operate properly.  
WARNING  
& To turn off the climate control  
system  
Continued operation in the ON posi-  
tion may fog up the windows. Switch  
to the OFF position as soon as the  
outside conditions are no longer  
dusty.  
To turn off the climate control system:

Type A: Select the “OFF” position using  
the fan speed control dial.  
.
Type B and C: Press the ON/OFF  
button.  
& Air inlet selection  
Select the air inlet by pressing the air inlet  
selection button.  
NOTE

When the indicator light on the air  
inlet selection button is flashing at  
engine starting, a malfunction might  
be occurring in the electrical sys-  
tem. We recommend that you con-  
tact your SUBARU dealer for inspec-  
tion.

Recirculation:  
When the indicator light on the air inlet  
selection button illuminates, interior air is  
recirculated inside the vehicle. Press the  
air inlet selection button to the ON position  
in the following cases.  
– When driving on a dusty road  
– When you want cooling perfor-  
mance to increase (for example, in  
particularly hot weather)  
.
The indicator light on the air inlet  
selection button may flash in the  
following cases. However, this does  
not indicate a malfunction.  
– After the vehicle battery has been  
disconnected and reconnected.  
– When the vehicle battery voltage  
is low.

When the indicator light on the air inlet  
selection button does not illuminate, out-
